Announcing Our Spring 2023 Grant Recipients

The Bolger Foundation is pleased to announce the results of our November 1, 2022-February 1, 2023 funding cycle. Nine (501)(c)(3) organizations were approved to receive a total of $545,300 for various capital projects. Of that amount, $275,000 was given in the form of four challenge grants.

Each of these nine nonprofits is engaged in a mission that aligns with The Bolger Foundation’s focus on conservation and preservation; health, including mental health; and community programs for those underprivileged and underserved.

Hands in 4 Youth (West Milford, NJ) received $10,000 to fund a new roof for one of their primary camp buildings. For nearly a century, Hands in 4 Youth has been offering quality summer camp opportunities to inner-city children in New York and New Jersey. They also provide school services, including educational support, enrichment programs, healthy snacks, nature weekends, college visits, and cultural exposure.

Midland Park Ambulance Corps (Midland Park, NJ) received $127,000 toward a new state-of-the-art ambulance. They provide free emergency services to Midland Park and surrounding communities. MPAC is a legacy beneficiary of The Bolger Foundation, having previously received funding for their current headquarters as well as other capital projects.

Mote Marine Laboratory (Sarasota, FL) received $100,000 from The Bolger Foundation. This independent nonprofit institution is dedicated to furthering conservation and sustainable stewardship of the world’s oceans through world-class scientific research and education. David F. Bolger, founder of The Bolger Foundation, was an avid supporter during his lifetime. So far, Mote has raised $100 million of the $130 million needed to expand their facility and programs.

My Possibilities (Plano, TX) received $25,000 for their capital campaign, which will fund improvements to campus buildings. My Possibilities is the first full-day, full-year continuing education and job placement program in North Texas for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Spectrum for Living (Bergenfield, NJ) received $8,300 to replace the HVAC system in their group home. For 40+ years, this nonprofit organization has helped adults with developmental disabilities attain their maximum potential by providing quality housing and clinical services in state-of-the-art facilities and in the homes of families caring for a disabled loved one.

Assistance Dogs of the West (Santa Fe, NM) is among the four nonprofits that received challenge grants from The Bolger Foundation. For more than 25 years, ADW has been pairing service dogs with individuals and communities in need, from one-on-one matches with private clients to Facility Dogs such as Courthouse, Crisis Response, and Peer Support Canines. They were granted a 4:1 challenge: Raise $200,000 to receive $50,000. Funding is earmarked for renovation and expansion of their campus and training facility.

James Rose Center (Ridgewood, NJ) has been challenged to raise $1.85 million in order to receive $150,000. This unique landscape research and study site was created in 1953 as the home of visionary 20th-century landscape architect James Rose, his mother, and his sister. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation.

New York-New Jersey Trail Conference (Mahwah, NJ/Harriman, NY) was challenged to raise $175,000 in order to receive $50,000. Funds will go towards rebuilding and renovating the Welch Trail Education Center in Harriman State Park, which is used to house and train AmeriCorps volunteers who assist with trail maintenance, education, and restoration.

Solid Foundation Youth Outreach (Paterson, NJ) was granted a 7:1 challenge: They must raise $175,000 to receive $25,000. Dedicated to transforming lives through skateboarding and art, Solid is celebrating their 20th anniversary by moving into a new headquarters. This funding will pay for renovations and build-out.
