Our Fall 2023 Grant Recipients: Projects Funded, Challenges Accepted

The Bolger Foundation is pleased to announce our Fall 2023 grant recipients. Thirteen 501(c)(3) organizations received a total of almost $525,000, including $410,000 in challenge grants. Two more applicants were encouraged to revise and resubmit their funding requests. All grantees represent capital projects that align with The Bolger Foundation’s focus on conservation, preservation, education, and health, including mental health.

Three projects were funded in full. Push to Walk (Oakland, NJ) received $26,025 for additional rehabilitation equipment to be used for physical therapy in their new, larger facility. ARC of Essex County (Livingston, NJ) was given $32,010 to replace HVAC units in 3 group homes. The Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation (St. Petersburg, FL) received $31,716 for revamping the audio-visual system of their new Arts District warehouse. In addition, the Bergen County Historical Society (River Edge, NJ) was awarded a $25,000 directed donation to their building fund.

Nine nonprofits received challenge grants. American Legion Post 53 (Ridgewood, NJ) redesigned their proposed Gold Star Family tribute monument; they are challenged to raise $100,000 in order to receive $25,000. Carepoint Health System (Hoboken, NJ) sought funding for two SimMan Essential Partner mannequins and must raise $150,000 to receive $40,000. Eastern Christian School (North Haledon, NJ) agreed to raise $40,000 towards renovation of their 1950s cafeteria in order to receive $10,000.

Several previous Bolger Foundation grant recipients also received challenge grants. Eva’s Village (Paterson, NJ) will raise $67,000 for security cameras and receive $10,000. New Hope Community Ministries (Prospect Park, NJ), an affiliate of Bolger Foundation grantee Servant’s Heart, is challenged to raise $714,095 and will then receive an additional $150,000 to renovate and expand into their newly purchased 4000-square-foot facility.

New Jersey Community Development Corporation (Paterson, NJ) already has raised $500,000 toward expansion of their affordable and supportive housing in Hawthorne, NJ. They must raise another $200,000 to receive $50,000 from The Bolger Foundation. The resulting total of $750,000 will pay for two more housing units plus community space and a demonstration kitchen.

Passaic County Habitat for Humanity (Paterson, NJ) will raise $200,000 to receive $50,000 toward building improvements, while Sage Eldercare (Summit, NJ) will do likewise to fund a new roof, surveillance system, and bathroom renovations.

Finally, longtime Bolger Foundation beneficiary Valley Hospital Foundation (Ridgewood, NJ) is challenged to raise $83,000 in order to receive $25,000 to fund a new SIM unit.

“We are excited about our Fall 2023 grant recipients and the challenges we have issued,” says JT Bolger, president of The Bolger Foundation. “As these worthy organizations go out into their communities to garner additional support, we are happy to be their catalyst. We look forward to reviewing the next round of grant applications in Spring 2024.”

The Bolger Foundation accepts grant applications during two periods annually: from June 1-September 1 and November 1-February 1. Applications may be submitted online at TheBolgerFoundation.org.
