JoyDew Foundation, Spring 2024 Grant Recipient, Makes News with a Good Deed

JoyDew Foundation, one of The Bolger Foundation’s Spring 2024 challenge grant recipients, was recently featured on WABC Channel 7’s Eyewitness News. In honor of National Autism Acceptance News, the Ridgewood, NJ-based nonprofit organization teamed up with the Ridgewood Police Department to train officers in dealing with situations in which they encounter individuals with autism.

The simulation exercise was designed by JoyDew to help police officers recognize traits and behaviors of people who are on the spectrum. It also provided valuable lessons on how to communicate with someone who may be non-verbal.

Part of JoyDew’s mission is helping to foster a better relationship between people with autism and those who serve the community at large. Kudos to JoyDew for their innovative and proactive approach to a serious ongoing issue! Check out the story and TV episode for details.
