Following in Grandfather's Footsteps: A Legacy of Giving Back

When I look back on my childhood memories of my grandfather, David F. Bolger, I remember visiting buildings and attending fundraisers with him (along with my parents and siblings). At that young age, I did not truly understand the weight and importance of those buildings and events. However, reflecting on those childhood memories now at the age of 23, I realize how monumental my grandfather’s mission was.

Like grandfather, like granddaughter: Kaylee Bolger with her grandfather, David F. Bolger (founder of The Bolger Foundation), in December 2009

While attending college, I immersed myself in classes to better understand the effects of philanthropy on different communities with diverse missions. As a result, I now have a clearer understanding of the work my grandfather did during his lifetime to help organizations fund their projects and give back to their communities. The Bolger Foundation has had a massive impact since he founded it in 1964, nearly 60 years ago.

I am honored to join the foundation’s board as a Junior Trustee, because my goals in life include giving back to the community through philanthropy. The Bolger Foundation’s focus on physical and mental health, also aligns with my career path.

In June 2023, I graduated from Goucher College with a bachelor's degree in psychology, intending to continue my education by pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Professional Counseling (CPC). In Fall 2023, I will enter Loyola University’s CPC program to begin earning my MS, which will enable me to make an impact on mental health by serving as a mental health professional.

As the newest member of the board, I am beyond excited to be part of the processes and philanthropy of The Bolger Foundation. I hope to carry on my grandfather’s legacy and do him proud.
