Bolger House at Northfield-Mount Hermon School

In 2009, David F. Bolger and his 4 siblings traveled to Gill, MA, returning to their prep school alma mater, Northfield Mount Hermon School, for a very special occasion: the dedication of Bolger House, gifted to the school by David F. Bolger under the aegis of The Bolger Foundation.

Strategically sited on Cottage Row between Memorial Chapel and Alumni Hall, with nearly panoramic views, the eponymous edifice was designed to serve as the coed school’s Admissions Center.

The annual locus of new students’ orientation and a perfect place to begin tours of the campus, the LEEDS Gold-certified building has also become a favorite venue for various special occasions.

The Bolger Foundation recently received a lovely email update on Bolger House from a longtime member of the NMH family, complete with a couple of photos of the gracefully aging structure.

He wrote, “I was on the Mount Hermon campus this past weekend for a memorial service for a colleague. After the service there was a reception at the Bolger Family House,” he continued, “and on my walk up to it I was struck with how beautifully the shingles aged; they have a lovely patina.”

It is still the preferred location for special occasion receptions,” he concluded, adding, “I always have fond memories of [David] and his request that rocking chairs be on the porch — they’re still there — whenever I see this building.
